BATHINDA: The Congress announced Charanjit Singh

Channi

as its CM face for Punjab assembly elections, but it is yet to be seen how will the development play out in

Bhadaur

, the second assembly constituency being contested by the politician who has been a three-time MLA from Chamkaur Sahib.

In the previous 12 elections at Bhadaur, Congress has won only twice from the seat (1969 and 2012), SAD has won seven times (1972, 1977, 1980, 1985, 1997, 2002 and 2007), and CPI (1967), BSP (1992) and AAP (2017) have won once each.

Channi is pitted against Satnam

Singh Rahi

of Shiromani Akali Dal, Labh Singh of Aam Aadmi Party and 10 others from the seat. Lack of quality health care and educational services are the biggest issues of Bhadaur. Channi has also been raising these problems while campaigning.

Faridkot MP Mohammad Sadique, who won on a Congress ticket from Bhadaur in 2012, has been campaigning regularly in the constituency. He said with Channi being announced as the CM face, Congress will win from Bhadaur convincingly.

Sushil Kumar, who is managing Channi’s election from the seat, said the party was sure of winning the set. “People want Channi to be the CM for complete five years as he has done well in only 111 days,” said Kumar.
