along with his coach, Dronacharya Award recipient Sukhdev Singh Pannu, and family here on Sunday. Arpinder praised the Punjab government for promoting sports by introducing a new policy, which has increased the award money for medal winners.




In a discussion with media, he said the previous government had not taken keen interest in promoting sports and players from Punjab performed poorly because of this. Arpinder, who works with ONGC, said the Punjab government had offered him the DSP’s job and he was grateful to the state government for the gesture.

“I hope our government will do more to encourage sportspersons and improve athletic tracks in the state,” he said, adding that the government’s initiative to increase award money for Asiad gold medallist from Rs 26 lakh to Rs 1 crore would encourage youth to join sports and win medals in international competitions. On future plans, he said he was looking to excel at the Asian Track and Field and World Championship next year and the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
