As part of the initiative, police inspected licenses across the three zones of the Amritsar Police Commissionerate, identifying eight suspected agents operating without proper authorization.

Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that on Monday, authorities checked the licenses of 72 immigration agents, of which eight were found to be suspicious. "These cases will be thoroughly investigated, and if any illegal activities are uncovered, strict legal action will be taken," Bhullar said.

The crackdown follows the recent deportation of illegal Indian immigrants from the United States. Several deportees claimed they had paid travel agents between Rs 40 lakh and Rs 70 lakh to facilitate their journey to the U.S.

Police have since intensified efforts to track down agents exploiting vulnerable individuals for hefty sums.
