AMRITSAR: After achieving notable success in the legal profession, including well-deserved appreciation from the Supreme Court, Amritsar-born Sumeer Sodhi expressed concern over a growing trend among a large number of young lawyers who, he felt, often lacked patience and long-term commitment as they chose the lure of quick gains.
He advised that such an approach risked undermining the dignity and credibility of the legal profession, which is built on perseverance, ethics, and sustained hard work. While advising young lawyers during a visit to his hometown on Monday, Sameer said, “Be honest with your brief.” Expressing concern over emerging trends in the profession, he remarked that many young lawyers today appeared drawn to quicker ways of earning money.
He emphasised that success and excellence came naturally only to those who exercised patience and committed themselves to continuous professional learning through practice, for not less than 5 years. After passing 12th standard from a local school, Sameer went to Pune, where he graduated from ILS Law College.
He scored 2nd rank in the Advocate-on-Record exam held under the aegis of the Supreme Court, and then he started practising in the Supreme Court from 2009.
In highly respectable and prestigious remarks, a dream for every lawyer, the Supreme Court applauded Sumeer’s presentation made on behalf of the Chhattisgarh govt.
A bench of Justices U U Lalit, Vineet Saran, and S Ravindra Bhat praised Advocate Sumeer Sodhi and suggested that the note submitted by him might be taken as the standard format by all counsel appearing for various state govts in the top court. In the recent past, he was one of the winners of the 6th Edition of the BW Legal World 40 Under 40 Lawyers and Legal Influencers Awards 2025.
