AAP leader Jai Pal Singh Bau shot after parking dispute in Amritsar
AMRITSAR: Jai Pal Singh Bau, the in-charge of Ward No. 42 of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and Narinder Singh, an associate of his neighbour Tejinder Singh , a retired police officer were injured in a shooting incident following which both were admitted to hospital. Their condition is stated to be stable.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) East, Davinder Singh, informed that police received information about a shoot-out between two parties in the Kot Atma Ram area under Police Station B-Division.
He said preliminary investigations suggest that neighbourers Tejinder Singh, a retired police officer and Jai Pal Singh had an altercation which escalated into a firing incident between both sides.
Giving details, he said that Jai Pal Singh’s son had parked his Thar vehicle near the retired officer’s residence, which was objected to by Tejinder Singh, leading to a scuffle during which Tejinder Singh’s turban was reportedly knocked off. Following this, Jai Pal Singh’s son left the scene.
Later, he called his father and brother, who allegedly arrived carrying a kirpan and a revolver, which led to another confrontation between the two sides. During the ensuing clash, a bullet struck Tejinder Singh’s associate Narinder Singh, while another bullet hit Jai Pal Singh, said ACP.
Both injured persons are undergoing treatment in hospital.
Dr. Avtar Singh of Amandeep Hospital, where Jai Pal Singh is being treated, said that he was admitted with bullet injuries. He added that the patient had both entry and exit wounds, as the bullet passed through the body without damaging any vital organs, and confirmed that he is stable.
The ACP further stated that police have initiated an investigation into the matter and appropriate action will be taken against those involved.
