Prayagraj: Students appearing in the Uttar Pradesh Board’s Class X examination created a new record, with the 2026 results registering the highest-ever pass percentage in the board’s 103-year history under normal examination conditions.
The pass percentage this year stood at 90.42%, surpassing last year’s 90.11% and setting a fresh benchmark in the academic record of the state board.
According to official figures released by the UP Board headquarters in Prayagraj on Thursday, 27,61,972 students registered for the High School examination.
Of them, 26,01,381 appeared, and 23,52,181 were declared successful. While the board recorded a pass percentage of 99.53% in 2021, that result was based on alternative assessment methods adopted during the Covid-19 pandemic when examinations were not conducted.
Officials said the 2026 outcome is therefore being seen as the most credible and significant achievement based on actual written examinations.
Girls once again outperformed boys by a wide margin. The pass percentage among girls was 93.76%, while boys recorded 87.30%. The gap continued the trend of female students securing better results in the state board examinations and reflected their strong academic performance across districts.
Board secretary Bhagwati Singh said the historic result was the outcome of students’ hard work, timely completion of the examination process and transparent evaluation. He said discipline and efficiency maintained throughout the examination cycle contributed significantly to the strong performance.
The achievement appears even more striking when viewed against the board’s historical lows. In 1992, the High School pass percentage dropped to just 14.70%, one of the weakest performances in its history. That year, only 8.47% of boys passed, while girls recorded 36.44%.
