ALLAHABAD: Tension prevailed in Colonelganj and adjoining areas under Colonelganj police circle on Monday following continuous tussle between traders and students.
Though adequate police forces have been deployed to defuse tension, police have been making attempts to bridge communication between traders and students.
Police officials said that they have been maintaining a strict watch on rumour mongers who were involved in disturbing peace in the area.

"Whenever there are rumours of tussles, traders shut down their shops and assemble in groups to protect them and their business establishment" said an official preferring anonymity adding police officials have been easing rumours and appealing masses not to believe in rumours" he added.
Police admitted that traders and students groups are still at loggerheads over Saturday's clash and both of them were not in mood to reluctant to roll back their agitation.
As a fall out, the visitors are confused and hesitating to visit colonelganj market. Secondly, the traders are demanding police higher up to initiate tough action against students who used to create ruckus in market areas on petty issues.
