Allahabad: Theatre artists and dramatists delved in to challenges faced by the art form on World Theatre Day here on Sunday.
Addressing a meeting on the occasion, dramatist Abhilash Narayan lauded the efforts of young artistes in promoting the art form despite limited resources. He stressed the need to portray forgotten folk tales in interesting way on stage so as to attract the audience towards theatre. The artists also read the message of renowned theatre director and professor of Russian theatre, Anatoli Vassiliev. According to Anatoli, in the ongoing socio-political scenario, only theatre is the proper medium to showcase the live emotions of sufferings of people. Theatre can portray the way Gods dwell in heaven to children living in refugee camps.
Similarly, noted dramatist Ajay Mukherjee highlighted the importance of the day for theatre and audience.
The speaker stated that Allahabad is playing a significant role in promoting Indian theatre. Artists Uday Chandra Pardesi and Mukesh Upadhayay also threw light on the way theatre has drawn serious audience from cinema halls to auditoriums.
There are around two dozen active theatre groups, including two Bengali, in the city. Youngsters' drama groups, portraying modern theatre, have also evolved in past two years
