PRAYAGRAJ: Prayagraj district police chief has suspended a police sub-inspector (SI) after a video went viral in which he could be seen removing an LED bulb from outside a shop in the Sangam City.

Earlier a private CCTV had caught a police constable ‘pocketing’ the mobile phone of a labourer sleeping on the footpath in the city at Kanpur. He too was suspended.

The District Police chief has ordered a probe in the case. However, no criminal proceedings have been initiated against the policeman till now despite being caught on tape stealing.

SSP Prayagraj, Shailesh Kumar Pandey has handed over the investigation of the entire matter to CO Phulpur. Meanwhile, the police officer, Rajesh Kumar Verma, has been suspended.

The video footage which is doing rounds on social media is from the Phulpur police station area. This 28-second footage is of the night of October 7. In the footage, the police officer is seen strolling near a shop. After looking around for a while, he slowly takes out the bulb, hanging outside a shop and puts it in his pocket and leaves hurriedly.

CO Phulpur Manoj Kumar Singh says that the viral video is being investigated. An explanation has been sought from the police officer. At present, he has been suspended due to prima facie negligence being exposed.

Few days back, CCTV footage of a constable stealing the mobile of a sleeping person in Kanpur’s Maharajpur had surfaced. The constable was also suspended.
