The residents of the city made a beeline to the Allahabad railway junction, on Thursday, to get acquainted with the life of Rabindranath Tagore. An exhibition on the poet's life and times is visiting the city on board Sanskriti Express.

ALLAHABAD: The residents of the city made a beeline to the Allahabad railway junction, on Thursday, to get acquainted with the life of Rabindranath Tagore. An exhibition on the poet's life and times is visiting the city on board Sanskriti Express.
General manager of North Central Railway, H C Joshi inaugurated the train thus, opening it for the general public.

On the occasion, he spoke on the diverse facets of Tagore's personality.
The 80 years of Tagore's life (May 7, 1861 to August 7, 1941) are on display within the five coaches of this train. The first coach, Jibon Smriti, has different photographs and details about his family members. Gitanjali is a storehouse of the various poems and songs composed by Gurudev. It has a list of his great works, right from 1878 to 1941, including Kabi-kahani, Banaful, Rudrachnada, Prabhat sangeet, Nalini, Konika, Gitanjali, Muktodhara etc. Also displayed are his Nobel Certificate and the Nobel Medal. Muktodhara displays prose, essays and novels. Chitrarekha coach displays famous paintings of the poet, besides portraits, natural stills, landscape, masks, sketches, illustrations and self-portraits. Sesh Katha, the fifth coach, has photographs of Tagore's last journey and the last days of life as described by his near and dear ones.
A B Das, manager of the Sanskriti Express, said that the train has travelled across numerous states, including West Bengal, Bihar, Orrisa, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Haryana and Uttarakhand.
