Prayagraj: Agricultural exports from the Prayagraj division are sailing smoothly despite the West Asia crisis. In March, 843 metric tons of agri-products were exported, fetching Rs 3.26 crore.
This month, amla products worth Rs 0.66 crore were shipped to Dubai and Canada, sailing through unscathed despite the Iran-US-Israel conflict.
Within the Prayagraj division, the primary agricultural products exported include amla (Indian gooseberry), green vegetables, okra (bhindi), green chilies, groundnuts, and non-Basmati rice.
Dinesh Chandra, assistant agricultural marketing officer, Prayagraj division, says non-Basmati rice accounted for the largest share of exports during this financial year. In 2025–26, a whopping 19,172.9 metric tons of rice were exported from the division, generating foreign exchange earnings of Rs 75.77 crore.
The Sri Ram Traders Mini Rice Mill in Pratapgarh has made the most significant contribution to this effort. This rice has been exported to Nepal. Groundnuts stole the show next to rice, earning Rs 2.96 crore by exporting several metric tons to Bangladesh.
To enhance farmers’ income, the state govt is making efforts to accelerate the export of agricultural produce. The incentives offered under the agricultural export policy of the Yogi govt are also proving instrumental. Consequently, the Prayagraj division has witnessed a surge in the export of agricultural products during the financial year 2025–26. Among these agricultural products, rice recorded the highest volume of exports.
Farmers are now looking beyond local markets and showing keen interest in exporting their agricultural produce abroad. This shift in the farmers’ mindset within the division has led to a record increase in farm exports. Moving beyond local markets, the produce of farmers in this region has successfully established a global footprint, reaching destinations ranging from Canada and the UK to Dubai and Bangladesh.
Chandra attributes the rapid growth in the division’s agricultural exports to improved coordination between exporters and farmers, as well as a positive shift in the farmers’ outlook. During the financial year 2025–26, a total of 19,683.17 metric tons of agricultural produce was exported from the Prayagraj Division. Over this period, farmers generated export revenue amounting to Rs 79.95 crore.
