Police educate students on human trafficking threats

Prayagraj: Students at Fateh Bahadur Singh Inter College were apprised about the grave issue of human trafficking and its changing forms, including the growing threat of online exploitation of children.The programme was jointly organised by Pragati Gramodyog & Social Welfare Institute and the Prayagraj Police's Anti-Human Trafficking Unit to mark the World Anti-Human Trafficking Week. It was part of a broader effort to educate young people and communities to recognise, resist, and report human trafficking, ensuring safer futures for vulnerable children in rural areas. Head of the Prayagraj Police's anti-human trafficking unit, sub-inspector Shiv Kumar Goyal said luring boys and girls from villages to big cities with false promises and exploiting them constitutes human trafficking."Girls and their parents must be aware of these tactics, as traffickers often deceive girls by tempting them with the promise of a better life, only to subject them to exploitation," he said.During the event, Shivani Shukla of class 11 led the students in taking a pledge to help prevent human trafficking and support its victims. The session included detailed discussions on various aspects of trafficking and how it increasingly uses digital platforms to trap children.District representative of Pragati Gramodyog Institute Sanjay Jaiswal explained that their organisation was actively strengthening child welfare and protection committees at the village and block levels. The institute is also running campaigns to prevent child marriage and child labour, both closely linked to human trafficking.The programme saw participation from around 130 students, along with teachers, the principal, and members of Pragati Gramodyog, including Hemant Singh Negi, Roshan Lal, and Ravi Shankar.
