Over 4L train tickets cancelled in 30 days due to heavy summer rush

Prayagraj: Massive rush during the holiday season has made train journey troublesome with a large number of people unable to find a berth or cancelling their tickets due to unconfirmed seats.
The situation could be gauged from the fact that in the last 30 days, about 4.65 lakh tickets, generated from Prayagraj, have been cancelled. This includes both e-tickets and window tickets.Among the four major stations of Prayagraj around 15,000-17000 tickets are being cancelled every day.
The tickets are being cancelled by two methods. In the online tickets, as per the rule, if the seat is not confirmed, the ticket automatically gets cancelled while the passengers are getting their wait listed ticket cancelled when the same is not getting confirmed.
Talking about the trains passing through Prayagraj Junction only, the number of cancelled tickets for online and window booking is reaching 9,000 per day. Along with Prayaraj Junction, the cancellation of tickets at Cheoki, Naini, Subedarganj, Sangam, Prayag, Rambagh stations are around 15000 to 17000 daily.
Because of this, the Railways has to return lakhs of rupees to the passengers every day.
To tackle the huge rush, Railways is increasing the frequency of summer special trains. According to chief public relation officer (PRO), H S Upadhayay, the frequency of Subedarganj-Secunderabad superfast weekly special train has been increased. Train number 04121 from Subedarganj will run every Thursday from July 6 to August 31. Train number 04122 from Secunderabad will operate on every Friday from July to September 1.
Likewise, train number 01922 Veerangana Laxmibai Jhansi Junction-Pune weekly express and 01921 Pune-Veerangana Laxmibai Jhansi Junction superfast express will run from July 5 to September 28.
Similarly, the frequency of Kanpur Central-Ahmedabad weekly special has been increased. Agra Cantt-Ahmedabad weekly will run from Agra Cantt every Wednesday and from Ahmedabad every Thursday from July 6 to September 28. Similarly, 04167 from Agra Cantt will run every Sunday and 04168 from Ahmedabad every Monday from July 3 to September 25.
Frequency of the Subedarganj-Bandra Terminus Summer Superfast has increased. Train number 04125 from Subedarganj will run every Monday from July 3 to September 25, said the CPRO.
