New chapter in Ramlila: ‘Narad Moh’ episode to captivate audiences this yr
Prayagraj: This year, the renowned Katra Ramlila Committee, known for its unique tradition of starting the epic performance with the birth of demon king Ravan, will introduce a new episode titled ‘Narad Moh'. Director of the Ramlila, Subhodh Singh, told TOI: "There will be a total of 12 episodes in Katra Ramlila this year, and we have decided to include a new episode of ‘Narada Moh'. In this episode, Narad, after feeling enraged and humiliated, accosts Lord Vishnu, believing he was deliberately tricked. He curses the Lord that one day he will experience the same pain of separation from his wife. And, to find his wife, Vishnu will require the help of monkeys."The ‘Narad Moh' episode in the Ramayan, as described in the mythological books, tells the story of how the celestial sage Narad's spiritual pride was humbled by Lord Vishnu. The lesson taught through this divine illusion (maya) ultimately leads to the circumstances of Vishnu's descent to Earth as Lord Ram.Singh said, "Audiences will be able to know more about Narada Moh through the new episode, which has never been performed by any Ramlila committee at length in the Sangam City."
Katra Ramlila begins with the birth of demon king Ravan, as the place is considered to be his ‘nanihal' (maternal grandfather's house). The committee is also known for taking out Ravan Baraat.Singh said, "The practice by artists for different Ramlila characters has already started, and a total of 35 artists will be performing different roles." While Rajveer Singh will be performing as Lord Ram, Manisha Gupta, Abhishek Giri, and Subhranshu Pandey will be playing the roles of Sita, Laxman, and Hanuman, respectively. The festivities are set to kick off on Sept 21 and will run until Oct 3.
