Allahabad: Saifai, the political stronghold and birthplace of Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav will soon figure on the railway map. Laying of the new line between Etawah and Mainpuri connecting Saifai has been completed and movement of trains will soon start in this section following the go-ahead from Commissioner of Railway safety.

This is the second major project of North Central Railway after it brought Bateshwar, the birthplace of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on the railway map by connecting Etawah and Agra via Bah and Fatehabad.

The length of the new railway line between Etawah and Mainpuri is about 55.1 kms. There are five stations on this route; Baidpura Halt, Saifai Halt, Karhal, Bhujia and Keeratpur.

The cost of the project is about Rs 245 crore. Testing of a goods train on the new route has been done and soon passenger train will also be operational on this route as CRS will inspect the new railway line.

The CRS is expected to inspect the new railway line of Etawah-Mainpuri in the month of June.
