ALLAHABAD: Come 2020, Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT) would soon be able to accommodate more students in its BTech and MTech courses. Reason: The institute plans to increase the number of seats in each of the two courses by 14%.
The decision will be implemented in the next academic session and comes after Union government’s decision to implement 10% reservation for students belonging to economically weaker sections (EWS) of the society.

The quota would be in addition to the 11% hike in the number of seats at MNNIT’s BTech courses during the 2019-20 academic session.
“With the reservations, MNNIT would grant admissions to 1,018 students in its BTech courses in the coming academic session (2020-21) instead of 901. For MTech course, the institute would offer admissions against 595 seats in the coming academic session against the present capacity of 528 seats,” said MNNIT’s admissions in charge Ashutosh Upadhyay.
He said that a proposal will soon be put before MNNIT’s Senate — the decision-making body — for a final approval.
Following this, a report would be sent to the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA), set up by the ministry of human resources development (MHRD) to manage and regulate the joint seat allocation for admissions to over 100 institutes for the academic year 2020-21 including 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 25 IIITs and many Other-Government Funded Technical Institutes (Other-GFTIs).
