ALLAHABAD: Festival of Janmasthami was celebrated with traditional fervour in the city on Wednesday. Temples were decorated to celebrate Lord Krishna's birthday as devotees made a beeline to offer prayers to the Lord. The birth of Lord Krishna was celebrated at midnight; the devotees rang bells, blew conch shells and sang 'bhajans' in the praise of the Lord.

At ISKON temple, Baluaghat, statues of Lord Krishna and Radha were decorated with flowers. Prayers were also offered at KalyaniDeviMandir, BeniMadhavMandir whereas people at MahanirvaniAkhara also celebrated Janmasthami.
Various tableaus depicting scenes from the life of Krishna were also showcased including the scenes of contemporary events. The most moving scene was of the Kedernath tragedy created by renowned moustache dancer and Limca Book of records holder Rajendra Tiwari alias Dukanji who recreated the recent tragedy. The temple was made of cotton balls and other material. Whereas other tableaus showcased problems of the people including rising prices and corruption.
