PRAYAGRAJ: Eight-year-old Vridhi Sahu crossed the Yamuna river in 11 minutes here on Friday.
A student of class 3 at YMCA secondary school & college under the guidance of her trainer Kamala Nishad, started swimming from Meerapur Sindu Sagar ghat (Kakraha ghat) at 6.30 am and crossed the river (another side of river bank) Vidhyapeeth Maheva ghat at 6:41am.
Master trainer Tribhuwan Nishad told TOI: “The little girl learnt swimming in just 16 days and she was determined to cross the river through her hard work.”
Her father Neeraj Sahu and mother Vatsala Sahu feels proud for the achievement of their daughter. Father said “My daughter was enthusiastic about learning swimming since childhood. On Friday, she fulfilled her dream.”
All family members, sitting on separate boats, were seen encouraging the little girl when she was crossing the river.
Earlier, a six-year-old girl Vritika Shandilya had crossed Yamuna in 11 minutes. There are currently 150 children in all age groups undergoing training under the banner of Navjeevan Swimming club, added Nishad.
