Prayagraj: The Sangam city continued to face a severe heatwave conditions and recorded 45.7 degree Celsius on Sunday second highest temperature after Banda . Banda recorded highest 46.6 degree Celcius in the state.
Ironically, majority of cities in state are currently grappling with season heatwave condition, with murcery soaring to record highs particularly the weekend i.e Saturday and Sunday.
The mercury has consistently stayed above 45°C in Prayagraj on Saturday and Sunday and led the heat charts among other cities like Varanasi and Banda being witnessed in past week.
The “blistering heat” throughout the day, on Sunday made outdoor conditions unbearable for city residents. Majority of residents preferred to confine themselves within four walls of house and streets remained deserted throughout the day on Sunday.

Weathermen predict that a fresh Western Disturbance might bring slight relief to the plains next week. Moreover, isolated thunderstorms and gusty winds are also expected in some parts of the state, which could slightly bring the mercury down.
The arrival of such extreme temperatures has raised concerns over citizens’ health. While district health authorities claimed to have made adequate arrangements including setting up cool rooms in all medical units, doctors have urged citizens to take all preventive measures including stay hydrated like drinking plenty of water, ORS, or homemade drinks like lassi and lemon water, limited sun exposure - avoid going outdoors between 12:00 noon and 4:00 PM and also ress appropriately like wearing lightweight, light-colored cotton clothing and use umbrellas or hats.
