ALLAHABAD: Traffic on the Allahabad-Varanasi highway was briefly held up for at least 30-minutes as members of Abhibhawak Ekta Samiti staged a symbolic chakka jam in protest against the fee hike in English medium schools of the city. The agitators raised slogans against the school management demanding rolling back of fee hike and exploitation of parents.
Addressing the gathering, convener, Vijay Kumar Gupta said that the ongoing agitation against fe hike has entered into its 40th day but the state government and school management along with the district authorities are sleeping over the issue.
The need of the hour is to intensify the movement instead of sitting and lamenting.
He urged the parents and guardians to get ready for a face off with the state government and local authorities because new schools and colleges are mushrooming in every nook and corner of the city without proper registration and there is no check over them.
This amounts to playing with the future of children in the backdrop of the fact that students are deliberately detained in the examinations if they refuse to take private tuition by school teachers and fail to cough up a hefty amount as re-examination fee.
Co-convener Suman Goswami said while the fee of admission form is barely Rs 5 the same is not the case when one goes to fill up re-admission form where the parents are asked to shell a hefty amount.
