AJMER: About 3,400 staff of Ajmer Municipal Corporation will join the statewide strike of sanitation workers from Tuesday, demanding priority to candidates with experience and those from the Valmiki community in the new recruitment process underway in the state.

A sanitation workers' association in the city alleged that those from other castes selected for sanitation workers' posts do not take up the postings and instead start working in govt offices.

Dilip Bhambani, health officer of Ajmer Municipal Corporation, said the civic body will make alternative arrangements for cleaning the city during the strike. There are 1,200 permanent sanitation staff at the municipal corporation and 2,200 working on contract basis, the officer said.

The Valmiki Sangarsh Samiti of Pushkar has also joined the protest.
