AJMER: Five from a family have been
sentenced to death
for the
mass murder
of four people in
Indrika Ki Dhani village
of
Pali district
over a
land dispute
on Thursday.
All the five accused, a father and four sons, were found guilty under sections 302/149 of the IPC. Fines have also been imposed on the accused.
Passing the order, the Pali district and sessions court called the crime heinous and said the murders were committed in cold blood. The accused had also conspired for the crime.
As per the case, five people - Shakur Khan (60), son of Alfu Khan; Usman Khan (35), Shahubudin (30), Rahim Baksh (25) and Kalu Khan (20), all sons of Shakur Khan and residents of Indrika Ki Dhani - conspired to kill Sharif Mohammad, son of Hakim Khan; Babu Khan, son of Hakim Khan; Lal Mohammad, son of Usman Gani; and Shabir Mohammad, son of Usman Gani; on July 19, 2009.
The prosecution proved that following the conspiracy the accused had attacked the victims with country-made guns and weapons. After killing the four, the accused poured acid on the dead bodies to render them unrecognisable.
"Other than six months in jail under sections 302 and 149, the court also ordered one-year rigorous imprisonment under sections 147 and 148 along with Rs 1,000 fine each," said Kamlesh Davera, public prosecutor.
The court also asked Shahubuddin to serve an additional one year imprisonment and pay Rs 1,000 fine under the Arms Act. All sentences will be served together.
The sensational murders had come as a shock for the district and the police had pulled out all stops to gather evidence and catch the accused. The prosecution was equal to the task and proved the intentions of all the five who committed the crime over a land dispute.
After the court pronounced the judgment, relatives of the victims broke down. The lower court order will now be challenged in the high court.
