AHMEDABAD: A 51-year-old woman lodged a complaint against two men allegedly for promising her film distribution rights for the Ahmedabad district, then cheating her.
Roshini Vithlani accused Chirag Patel and his father,
Pravin Patel, of duping her out of Rs 2.85 lakh and gold ornaments.
She told police that she initially met
Chirag for some loan-related work in Naroda.
Over time, Patel became a family friend and frequently visited her residence in Ghatlodia.
In 2016, Patel informed Vithlani that he knew film director K C Bokadia and was involved in producing a high-budget film. He told her that if she invested Rs 25 lakh, he could secure the film rights for the Ahmedabad district and offer her a partnership in the film. Vithlani told police that she gave him gold ornaments weighing about 17 tolas and Rs 12 lakh in cash, along with an additional Rs 3 lakh for setting up the film set in the city. In total, she gave Rs 15 lakh to the duo.
However, due to a lack of clarity regarding the film project, Vithlani requested Chirag to return her ornaments and cash. In December 2020, Chirag gave her a promissory note, stating he would return Rs 10 lakh in cash and 17 tolas of gold ornaments. Out of the promised amount, Chirag returned Rs 7.15 lakh and retained Rs 2.85 lakh as a security deposit.
He gave Vithlani two cheques, one for the 17 tolas of gold ornaments and another for the Rs 2.85 lakh security deposit. Chirag also assured her the ornaments would be returned within six months.
However, the money and the ornaments have yet to be returned. Vithlani mentioned in her complaint whenever she requested the money and ornaments, the duo would make promises without fulfilling them. Finally, on Friday, she decided to lodge a complaint with the Ghatlodia police.
