Warm nights persist as city logs 21.6°C, sixth-highest for Feb

Ahmedabad: The city continued to witness unusually warm nights as the minimum temperature on Thursday settled at 21.6 degrees celsius — 5.1 degrees above normal. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this was the sixth highest minimum temperature ever recorded in Ahmedabad for the month of Feb.For perspective, the highest minimum temperature recorded in Feb in the city was 23 degrees celsius in 2016. Notably, four of the highest Feb minimum temperatures have been recorded in the past two years. On Wednesday, the minimum temperature stood at 21.8 degrees celsius, ranking fourth on the all-time list.
The maximum temperature on Thursday reached 34.7 degrees celsius, which was 1.6 degrees above normal. The IMD forecast indicates that both minimum and maximum temperatures were likely to remain in a similar range on Friday.At present, the state is under the influence of multiple weather systems, including an upper air cyclonic circulation over the northeast Arabian Sea, a trough extending from south Karnataka to Marathwada, and another upper air cyclonic circulation over southwest Rajasthan. However, the forecast for Gujarat suggests there will be no significant change in either maximum or minimum temperatures over the next seven days.
