AHMEDABAD: Zafar Ali Haliq, 25, an alleged ISIS operative who was nabbed by Gujarat anti-terrorism squad (ATS) and later handed over to Delhi special cell, had confessed to senior Gujarat police officials that two other persons from the Tamil Nadu module of ISIS were to join him in Vadodara. Zafar Ali had also been involved in setting up the ISIS module in Tamil Nadu, ATS said.

A top ATS official said that Zafar Ali’s two associates were to bring three

to Vadodara. The duo had killed a special sub-inspector, Wilson, 57, in Kaliyakkavilai in Kanyakumari, said an ATS official.

“They had plans to recruit and radicalize Muslim youths from Jambusar , set up an ISIS module here and possibly carry out a terror attack,” the ATS official said. He added their plans were to flee to UP after the terror operation.

“They were to join their handler Khanja Moideen in UP and flee to Nepal. But the special cell of Delhi police nabbed Moideen and his two associates, before they could do anything. During their interrogation, Zafar Ali’s name was revealed. He was from Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu, and was staying in Gorva, Vadodara,” the ATS official said. Zafar Ali was arrested from Panchvati Circle in Vadodara by Gujarat ATS on Thursday.
