AHMEDABAD: On Tuesday, Gujarat will play host, for two days, to an 11 member dele gation from China led by Guangdong province governor, Zhu Xiaodan. The high-powered delegation is here to crystallize deals in public infrastructure projects in which the Chinese province would like to partner Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). The AMC has already prepared a proposal for partnership in water recycling system for rejuvenating the Sabarmati riverfront.
The second is the smart city project.
In the smart city project, the AMC wants to enter into an agreement with Shenzhen City which is one of the few Chinese cities to have implemented an egovernance system. The AMC wants to partner with Shenzhen City in setting up an optical fiber network and data centre in the city.
The Sabarmati riverfront today heavily depends on Narmada waters which are diverted into the 11-km riverfront stretch before flowing back into the canal system. The AMC wants to replace this water with tertiary treated sewerage water that would be of bathing quality . For this, 50 million litres per day (MLD) and 65 MLD water treatment facilities would be set up along the riverfront most probably at Jalvihar and at Hansol. “We will like to partner in the water recycling and smart city projects with the Chinese province,“ said municipal commissioner D Thara.
There is a also a proposal for converting a large slum area close to 60 acres opposite Gandhi Ashram -into a green patch. The people currently living here will be rehabilitated in houses for economically weaker sections (EWS) at the same location. With Shenzhen City the AMC wants to put in place smart systems for improving essential civic amenities -water supply , drainage, health and sanitation and taxation.
