AHMEDABAD: Chandkheda police on Sunday booked Hitesh Raval, 27, a talati in Sanand, for abetting his wife’s suicide. Raval is a resident of Shrifal Residency in Chandkheda.

The victim has been identified as

Bhavna Raval

, a native of Surat. Bhavna had on Saturday afternoon hanged herself to death at her in-laws’ home in Chandkheda.

Police had first registered a case of accidental death. After an inquiry, Raval was booked for abetment.

Bhavna’s father, Kishor Bavaji, a retired bank employee, stated in his FIR filed with Chandkheda police that Bhavna had married Raval on March 8. The FIR said that soon after marriage, Raval and his family members started torturing her for money.

The FIR said that Raval used to harass Bhavna, demanding Rs 6 lakh from her to buy a new house. Recently, Bhavna had told her family members that she had been beaten by Raval.

On Saturday afternoon, Bavaji came to know that Bhavna had committed suicide. As police did not book her husband, the family protested. Police have sent Bhavna’s body for postmortem.
