Ruby's crore tag fake?
AHMEDABAD: The mystery behind the star ruby seems to be getting deep. Even as its original owner Samir Jagot was telling the Vadodara police on Monday that the precious stone in its possession was indeed the star ruby which he had got from a fakir in Junagadh, the Mumbai-based valuator who had pegged its value at Rs 6.3 crore, began denying it.
On Sunday a TOI report had said the ruby's actual value was Rs 6.3 crore based on a valuation report signed by Pankaj Parekh of Chunilal and Company Jewellers, located at Pydhonie, Mumbai.

However, on Monday, Parekh told TOI that the valuation report which TOI had got from the police records was forged. Parekh said, "There is no record of any such valuation report in our records". When quizzed about the copy of the valuation report signed by one PJ Parekh as the registered valuer in the police records, he said there was a strong possibility of the report being forged.
On Saturday, however, Parekh had told TOI, "I don't remember whether Jagot had come to me as hundreds of people come to us for valuation but if the report bears our name then it has to be perfect".
Police officials feel that just to raise the value of the ruby, prime accused in the case Jayanti Pateliya and his accomplices might have forged the valuation reports. Pateliya has already been accused of killing three persons on the ruby's trail. His girlfriend Jyoti Shah had surrendered before the Ahmedabad police on hearing about the murders.
Vadodara police commissioner PC Thakur said "the jewellers who made the valuation report will be summoned for questioning".
Thakur also said the report valuing the ruby at Rs 6.3 crore would be examined for its veracity.
