Ahmedabad: Gujarat government’s ambitious project to develop a Rs 3,800 crore greenfield port at

Nargol

has failed to find any takers. Prospective bidders including

Adani

Group, Dubai’s

DP World, Essar Group

, JSW Group and J M Baxi group, who participated in the pre-bid meetings and had evinced interest in the project, have all stayed away from the bidding process, said sources close to the development.
The

Gujarat Maritime Board

which had invited global bids for the project had extended the deadline for bid submission at least thrice. For the Nargol project, the government had relaxed the concession period under the state’s Build Operate Own and Transfer (BOOT) policy from 30 years to 50 years.
Despite concerns raised by Adani, DP World and Essar groups about some of the terms in the request for proposal being detrimental to the project and making it unviable in the long run, the government largely stuck to its original proposal.
