Ahmedabad: A special court here on Wednesday granted four-day transit remand of Aakif Nachan to the National Investigation Agency (
NIA) to produce him in a court in Jaipur in
Rajasthan in connection with the recovery of 13kg of explosives in Chittorgarh.
The Gujarat anti-terrorist squad (ATS) nabbed Nachan from Padgha district in Maharashtra on Sunday and brought him to Ahmedabad.
NIA sought Nachan’s custody by filing an application for transit remand because the case in which he has been arrested is before a special court in Jaipur.
Requesting special judge Shubhada Baxi for transit remand of Nachan for four days, NIA’s special prosecutor Amit Nair submitted that the probe agency effected the arrest on Tuesday and the accused is a “hardcore and highly radicalised person involved in anti-national terrorist activities”. His transportation requires special security arrangements.
The court was apprised of the case and the prosecutor submitted that three persons —
Zubair Khan, Saifulla alias Saifu Khan and Altamash Khan — were held with explosives and other material for IEDs on March 30 in Chittorgarh. Looking at the seriousness of the case, the Ministry of Home Affairs transferred the probe to NIA. The prosecutor submitted that Nachan’s involvement was revealed during the interrogation of three accused persons, who said he had participated in bomb making training. tnn
