Lakes tell tales of AMC neglect
AHMEDABAD: Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (
“This lake is poorly maintained. The benches remain dirty all the time with no one to clean them. The lake is without water since last monsoon and you can see weeds and shrubs everywhere. Malav Talav has now turned into Malav garden,“ said a retired government employee.
Parshottam Patel, who was present at Jivraj park, said several letters have been written to the AMC to remove the shrubs, but nothing has been done so far. “Broken benches and lack of facilities speak volume of neglect by the civic body,“ he said.
At Ghodasar lake, garbage and drain water can be seen flowing into the lake. According to sources, several complaints have been lodged with the AMC by activists in the area to stop drainage water flowing into the lake, but the civic body has so far failed to do anything.
“The lake instead of adding beauty to the area, has now become a stinking zone where no one want to venture because of the foul smell emanating from the garbage strewn there,“ said Narendra Patel, a local resident.
