Ahmedabad: Keshav Kumar, a 1986 batch IPS officer from Gujarat who was on deputation with the Central Bureau of Investigation since 2010 has been repatriated to his home cadre.

Kumar was heading the Mumbai zone of CBI which includes the anti-corruption wings at Mumbai, Pune, Goa and Gandhinagar. He was replaced by Amit Mohan Prasad, a 1989 batch IPS officer of the Orissa cadre.

Kumar was sent on deputation in 2010 and attained his last promotion as additional DGP during his tenure at the CBI.

According to sources, Kumar was earlier sent on deputation for five years but his term was extended by a year in 2015. "He will be relieved on May 9," said a senior home department source.

Keshav Kumar, while at the Crime Investigation Department (CID) in Gujarat played a pivotal role in the arrest of Circus Lal, a poacher who had killed more than five Gir lions.

"The gang of poachers was busted in a month as investigations were handed to Kumar," said a senior police official.

Kumar is also known for his police welfare work. Top home department officials said it is not clear where Kumar will be posted on his return to the parent cadre.
