High court not satisfied with draft of govt’s litigation policy

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat high court on Wednesday expressed its dissatisfaction with the litigation policy drafted by the state government. The court directed the government to introduce certain guidelines to curb unnecessary litigation instituted by officials’ casual approach.The bench of Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal and Justice Aniruddha Mayee had last month ordered the government to come up with a litigation policy. Upon perusal of the draft, the court said the policy talked about the constitution of three-layered committees only but was silent on how they should function. The court said that the policy guidelines were generic and about litigation strategy. Besides issuing directions regarding guidelines on filing cases, the court also ordered streamlining of the issue of accepting advance copies of petitions by the government pleader’s office.The court has asked for a revised draft of the policy by January 23, 2024. tnn
