Hernia surgery on 21 year old conducted at Thaltej CHC
Ahmedabad: In a significant step towards strengthening surgical services at civic health facilities, doctors at the Thaltej Community Health Center (CHC), managed by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), successfully performed a hernioplasty surgery on a 21-year-old patient. The surgery was done on May 27 by Dr Hitesh Patel and his medical team on Krish A Pal, who was diagnosed with a right indirect inguinal hernia. The procedure, conducted under general anaesthesia, lasted from 10.30am to 12pm.According to doctors, the patient, son of a rickshaw driver, had swelling in the groin area along with a large muscle lump in the inner wall, requiring surgical intervention. The operation was performed free of cost using the patient’s PMJAY card.Dr Chetan Choudhary of Thaltej CHC said the case came to the attention of doctors during an HPV vaccination drive held earlier. “A rickshaw driver had approached us seeking treatment for his son’s hernia. After evaluation, we planned the surgery at the Thaltej CHC. Despite the challenges of conducting such surgeries at a community health centre, the medical team successfully completed the operation,” he said.He added that the successful procedure has increased public confidence in civic-run health centres. “Following this success, we have started receiving more enquiries for similar surgeries, which is a positive development,” Dr Choudhary said.
