Gujarat: Missing Viramgam factory worker found murdered in field near highway
Ahmedabad: A 32-year-old factory worker who had been missing since Friday was found murdered in a fallow field near Dashlana village in Viramgam taluka on Sunday evening, police said.
The deceased was identified as Sanjay Vaghela, a resident of Ukhlod village in Ahmedabad district. His elder brother, Kirti Vaghela, lodged a complaint with Viramgam rural police against unidentified persons for murder.
According to the FIR, Sanjay worked at a private company in Karshanpura. Family members told police that he left home around 6am on May 8, saying he was going to work, but did not return home that night. Initially, the family believed he might have stayed back for an extra shift at work, as he occasionally worked double shifts.
When repeated calls to his mobile phone went unanswered and later switched off, the family began searching for him and contacted relatives and his co-workers. One of his colleagues informed the family that Sanjay had not reported for work that day.
Another co-worker, Bharat, told the family that he and Sanjay had left the factory together around 7.30pm on May 8 and stopped briefly at Endla crossroads. According to the statement, Sanjay then told him that he was going to meet a relative before leaving.
Later that night, another colleague informed the family that Sanjay’s motorcycle had been found abandoned near the Rupen Hotel in Dashlana village.
The family and relatives continued searching in nearby areas until Sunday evening, when relatives found Sanjay’s body in a field opposite a petrol pump near the highway.
Police said the body bore multiple injuries inflicted by a sharp weapon on the neck, abdomen, shoulder and other parts of the body. Blood stains were found on his clothes, and the body had begun decomposing.
Police registered a case of murder against unidentified persons and launched an investigation into the motive behind the killing.
