Body of a five-year-old girl

was fished out from

Dadhichi Bridge

early on Tuesday morning. The victim was identified as Krishna Zala, 5, a resident of Shukla ni Chali, Juna Vadaj.

She had fallen in the river on Monday afternoon when she was with her mother. While her mother was rescued, Krishna could not be found.

Riverfront (E) police have registered a case of accidental death.

According to investigators, Divya Zala, 32, and her daughter Krishna had come to the Riverfront walkway after Krishna’s school had got over on Monday afternoon. According to Divya’s statement, at about 4pm while playing, Krishna fell in the river. She jumped after her immediately to save her. Those present nearby raised an alarm after which a team of Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES) managed to get Divya out.

“The body of Krishna was spotted floating on the water on Tuesday morning and was handed over to Riverfront (E) police. Divya was taken to the hospital on Monday whereas search was continued till late hours,” said an AFES official.
