AHMEDABAD: A 14-year old girl died in a freak accident at a manned railway crossing near GST Ranip on Tuesday afternoon. The girl’s bicycle got stuck in the last bogey of the train and the girl, seated on the bicycle, got dragged along with it. Government Railway Police (GRP) of Sabarmati railway station has registered a case of accidental death.
According to police investigators, Mansi Tiwari, a resident of Shiv Darshan Society in New Ranip was returning home from school on Tuesday afternoon and was crossing the railway tracks along with a few others.
As Anand-Gandhinagar MEMU train was approaching, personnel at the crossing got the barrier down.
“Then, Mansi was standing near the tracks, waiting for the train to pass. As the last bogey was passing, her bicycle got caught in foot ladder and she got dragged along with the train. People at the railway crossing shouted out to draw attention of the train driver but before they could do anything, Mansi fell on the side of the track and sustained serious head injuries which proved to be fatal,” said a GRP official.
