A near hostage-like situation was avoided on Saturday when a police party chased two criminals into a school in Kapadvanj town in Kheda where they opened fire, but were overpowered by the public later.

AHMEDABAD: A near hostage-like situation was avoided on Saturday when a police party chased two criminals into a school in Kapadvanj town in Kheda where they opened fire, but were overpowered by the public later.
A Kheda district police party was on a vehicle checking round when around 11 am two men riding a motorbike with Vadodara registration aroused suspicion.

When the police tried to intercept, they opened fire on them. The police and several bystanders then chased the bikers who took refuge in CN High School where parents had gathered to pick up their children.
The gangsters opened fire on the police even on the school campus and a man in the crowd, Rakesh Patel, received bullet injury. He is being treated at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital.
Police then closed the school gates and the mob caught the duo — Mohan Tutia of Madhya Pradesh who is wanted for loot, theft and murder in Vadodara and Veer Thapa from Nepal. Both of them were thrashed by the crowd and were undergoing treatment at the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital.
The district magistrate has recorded their dying declaration where they said that they had come to meet Jairam Rabari, a notorious goon from Kapadvanj, who is absconding after the incident.
Himanshu Shukla, superintendent of police, Kheda district, said, "It is possible that they were here to execute a supari killing".
