Exhibition vandalized: Gujarat University withdraws decision to cancel admissions of nine students

Ahmedabad: Gujarat University has withdrawn its decision to cancel the admissions of nine students allegedly linked to vandalism at an exhibition on campus, following warnings of protests by the National Students' Union of India (NSUI). The university had earlier announced the cancellation of admissions of nine students after posters and displays at the Atal Kalam Centre were reportedly damaged.The exhibition included panels and cut-outs of national figures such as Dr B R Ambedkar, Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Veer Savarkar. The administration stated that vandalism of such material hurt public sentiments and amounted to misconduct.
A police complaint was also lodged in connection with the incident. NSUI and Congress leaders opposed the action, alleging that some of the students named were not present during the incident and that a few were not currently studying at the university.They termed the move arbitrary and politically motivated and warned of intensified agitation if the orders were not withdrawn. After the NSUI's protest warning, the university reportedly rolled back the cancellation decision. Authorities said entry to the campus will now be strictly restricted without a valid identity card.
