‘Denied food, assaulted’: Retired police inspector kills self in Ahmedabad; wife, son booked
AHMEDABAD: A 64-year-old retired police inspector, Jayanti Parmar, was found dead inside a parked vehicle in Chandlodia on Wednesday after ingesting a poisonous substance.
Sola police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against his wife Kailas, younger son Manoj, and sister-in-law Usha, based on a complaint filed by his brother Naresh.
During a search, a handwritten note, suspected to be a suicide letter, was found near his bedding. The note states that Kailas allegedly denied him food many times, so he used to go to Naresh's house to have food.
According to police, Jayanti retired from service in 2020 and had been living with his family in Pethapur, Gandhinagar district. The complaint states that while the first two years after retirement passed without major issues, disputes within the household began in 2022.
Naresh alleged that the three accused subjected Jayanti to continuous harassment, including verbal abuse, neglect, and repeated demands for his pension money.
Naresh alleged that his brother was frequently told to leave the house and was denied proper care, forcing him to take shelter at his residence in Chandlodia for extended periods.
The FIR details a specific dispute in 2022 between Jayanti and Kailas over the purchase of gold jewellery, during which Manoj and Usha allegedly sided with Kailas.
The complainant stated that the accused routinely pressured Jayanti to surrender his pension and insulted him before forcing him out. Kailas allegedly denied him food on multiple occasions, forcing him to go to his brother's home for meals. She also allegedly questioned his character and assaulted him, the complaint states.
The complaint further alleges that Manoj would return home under the influence of alcohol and attempt to assault Jayanti, while Usha would instigate disputes.
Kailas allegedly supported these actions and continued pressuring him to leave the house.
Police said Jayanti had shifted to his brother's residence multiple times in the past owing to the alleged harassment. About a week before the incident, Jayanti's elder son Rajni Parmar and a relative brought him back to his Pethapur home. However, the complaint alleges that the harassment resumed shortly after.
On March 18, Jayanti called his brother and reported renewed disputes and threats at home. The next day, he left his residence again and returned to Chandlodia to stay with Naresh.
On Thursday morning, Naresh found Jayanti missing from the house. His mobile was unreachable. Later, around 11.25 am, the deceased was found dead inside a vehicle parked on a road between Kumkum Party Plot and Chikuwadi in Chandlodia.
