Cyclone Biparjoy Live Updates: Power to be restored in affected areas by June 20, says Amit Shah
Union home minister Amit Shah on Saturday visited Gujarat and conducted aerial survey of areas affected due to cyclone Biparjoy. He was accompanied by Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel. Shah will also visit Kutch and Jakhau Port. He will also hold a meeting with CM and officials. Massive swathes of land in Kutch, as well as Saurashtra, were flooded with rain waters that gushed into houses, sending people’s belongings floating with scant chances of recovery. In Kutch alone, nearly 80,000 electricity poles collapsed while nearly 33,000 hectares of farmland have been affected. Cyclone Biparjoy has weakened into a 'deep depression' and is further expected to weaken into a 'depression' in the next 12 hours. Stay with TOI for all updates:

Heavy rainfall in Rajasthan due to cyclone Biparjoy
- Several places in Rajasthan received heavy rainfall on Saturday due to cyclone Biparjoy, which moved further towards the desert state following its landfall in Gujarat, officials said. Sirohi received a rainfall of 37.5 mm till 5.30 pm, Jalore 36 mm, Barmer 33.6, Bikaner 26.6 mm, Dabok 13 mm, Dungarpur 12.5 mm and 10.5 mm in Jodhpur.

Power has been restored in 1,600 villages out of the 3,400 villages where the power supply was cut. Around 1.08 lakh civilians were taken to safe places due to the cyclone. Around 73,000 animals were taken to safe spots.

Around 47 people were injured due to cyclone Biparjoy, but none of them are severely injured. Around 234 animals died during the cyclone. - Mount Abu of Sirohi district, which is close to the Gujarat border, received 210mm of rainfall till 12.30 pm on Saturday. Sirohi is among the districts where cyclonic effect of Biparjoy has brought heavy rainfall.
- Many low-lying areas of Barmer districts, including Sewda, Gudhamalani and Sindari, have received heavy rainfall since Friday evening. These areas have witnessed heavy waterlogging.
- NDRF team has been called in Barmer for rescue of people stuck in villages amidst heavy rainfall, according to Arun Purohit, district collector, Barmer.
- In past 24 hours, the maximum effect of cyclone is seen at Jalore, Sirohi and Barmer districts of the state.
- Due to abrupt weather conditions in Udaipur, two flights -- Udaipur to Delhi and Udaipur to Mumbai -- have been cancelled on Saturday.
- Jaipur too has received mild showers since Saturday afternoon. Continuous rainfall at many areas since 2.30pm on Saturday.
- At least 14 trains that pass through Barmer were cancelled by the railway authorities due to heavy rainfall.

Amit Shah conducts aerial survey of cyclone-affected areas in Gujarat's Kutch
- Union home minister Amit Shah along with Gujarat chief minister Bhupendra Patel on Saturday conducted an aerial survey of areas affected due to cyclone Biparjoy in Gujarat's Kutch.
- Later during the day, Shah is scheduled to hold a review meeting with Patel and other senior officers.
- Shah will then visit Mandvi and meet people affected by the cyclone and then visit the Swami Narayan Temple in Bhuj and review food materials and other facilities being provided for affected people.

Over 450 birds are among the casualties of Cyclone Biparjoy in Dwarka, Jamnagar and Kutch, said forest officials. The Asiatic lions have all been found safe, they said.

Gujarat govt to give cash doles to affected
The state government announced on Friday evening that all those affected by Cyclone Biparjoy will be provided cash doles and that these will be distributed within the next three days. Adults will be given cash doles of Rs 100 per day and minors will be provided cash doles of Rs 60 per day. An official statement said that those who have been evacuated to safer places will be eligible for cash doles for a maximum of five days.

Along with everyday activities, the “very severe cyclonic storm” Biparjoy, which made landfall on the Gujarat coast late on Thursday night, wreaked havoc on industry and left a trail of devastation. While ports shut operations, heavy rain in seven districts hampered industrial production, uprooted trees and flooded highways and roads bringing logistics to a standstill. Industrial trade worth about Rs 5,000 crore has been halted, according to estimates by the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI).

Gujarat: 5 lakh tonnes of salt washed away
Maliya near Morbi and Navlakhi in Kutch are among the leading salt production hubs of Gujarat. At the end of the salt production season, when massive stocks of harvested salt were stored at production units, an estimated 5 lakh tonnes has been washed away by the heavy rainfall, according to estimates by the Marine Salt Manufacturers’ Association.
“Despite advance warnings, stocks were so huge that moving them was difficult. As a result of the storm surges, a significant stock was washed at 500 salt manufacturing units. Industrial salt prices are expected to rise with reduced supply,” said Dilubhai Jadeja, president of the association.

When we reached there we realized that it was not possible to take a vehicle there. We walked 2 km on foot in waist-deep water. The water was rising and very turbulent. We had to be extra careful as there were 9 kids among those stranded.
