AHMEDABAD: Senior Congress leader Amit Chavda was the victim of a cyberattack on July 4, just minutes before he was scheduled to hold a Facebook Live meeting with his followers at 1pm. The account was suspended for a few hours and was later restored.

Chavda said he and the three administrators of his page could not access the site 10 minutes before the meeting was supposed to go live and suspected that it was hacked. He immediately lodged a complaint with the Gujarat cybercrime helpline 1930 and informed the Congress party’s IT unit in Delhi.

Based on Chavda’s complaint, the Gujarat police cyber cell informed the law enforcement agency (LEA) wing of Facebook, which suspended the account to prevent further damage. The account was activated again after the passwords of the administrators were changed.

Chavda demanded a thorough investigation into the matter and asked the authorities to take strict action against the culprits.
