CCTV scan: Board flags 73 suspicious cases in Class 10 & 12 exams

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) has flagged 73 suspicious cases after reviewing CCTV footage of the recently concluded Class 10 and 12 board examinations. Of these, 36 cases were reported from urban centres and 37 from rural areas. The CCTV scrutiny began a day after the examinations ended, with footage examined from four centres across Ahmedabad city and rural regions. In rural areas, 37 suspicious cases were identified — 18 from Class 10, 18 from Class 12 (General stream), and one from Class 12 Science. Following hearings conducted by the district education officer (DEO) in rural regions, six students were found guilty of unfair practices — three each from Class 10 and Class 12 (General stream). The lone Class 12 Science case, however, was dismissed after the student was found innocent. In Ahmedabad city, all six suspicious cases reported from Class 12 Science examinations were confirmed as malpractice during hearings. In addition, 18 cases from Class 10 and 12 cases from Class 12 (General stream) have been registered in urban centres, for which hearings are yet to be held. The board said strict action will be taken against students found guilty, in line with examination rules. Further investigations and hearings are underway to ensure transparency and uphold the integrity of the examination process.
