Kirit Patel, prime suspect in the Kheda and Anand highway robbery incidents was finally nabbed by the ATS on Thursday.
AHMEDABAD: Kirit Patel, alias Dhoom, prime suspect in the sensational armed highway robbery incidents which occurred near Kheda and Anand recently, was finally nabbed by the Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) officials on Thursday. Though the ATS is tightlipped on his arrest, sources confirmed that Patelis in the custody of the ATS. When asked about Kirit's arrest, deputy inspector general of the ATS R Rajan Priyadarshi avoided the question and said, "We will talk about it later. " ATS sources said, "Kirit, an auto mechanic by profession and a resident of Voal village in Gandhinagar district, is known by the name of Dhoom as he has mastery over driving bikes at high speed." Preliminary investigations revealed that Kirit is involved in more than 100 offences of armed loot and highway robbery.
A police official said Kirit's gang has eight to 10 members and so far they have committed loots and robberies in all the major cities and districts of the state. Moreover, he is also linked to the arms mafia of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. "That is where he gets his arms from," the police official added. Sources, however, had nothing say about Kirit's involvement in the recent highway robberies at Kheda and Anand in which more than Rs 40 lakh were looted and an employee of an Ahmedabad-based courier firm was shot dead. "We are interrogating Kirit in connection with the recent loots, but he has not revealed anything till now," said a source. About Kirit's modus operandi, a senior police official said Kirit commits all the robberies on his bike. "Besides, his build up is such that he can tackle all those who retaliate, alone," the police official added. Kirit was arrested earlier also, but he managed to give police the slip three times. Last time when Kirit was being brought to Ahmedabad from Saurashtra, he managed to escape.
