Ahmedabad: The controversial deaths of Dipesh and Abhishek Waghela in Asaram Gurukul and the families' anger against the state government's inaction in the case has taken the form of highly suggestive masks this election.
Over 10,000 masks, split in half with LK Advani's face on one side and Asaram on the other, are being distributed in Ranip, Ghatlodia and adjoining areas.
The masks have been ordered by businessmen and Congress supporters Gordhan Patel and Ramesh Patel who had grieved with the Waghelas over the murder of the sons by virtually shutting down areas like Ranip and Ghatlodia.
"People will not forget the deaths of the Waghela sons whose murder still remains a mystery," said Gordhan Patel. In fact, Shantilal and Praful Waghela called a meeting of community members on Friday night which saw a large attendance. The Waghela family is said to have told community members not to support the BJP and punish it for not giving them justice in the case.
Abhishek's father Shantilal Waghela told TOI that BJP cheated them by promising a quick and fair inquiry into the murders of their sons. Once the spotlight shifted from the case, there was no action. This government is hand-in-glove with my sons killers," Waghela had told TOI.
The masks are being distributed especially among women to appeal to their emotional quotient, leaving the Congress especially pleased.
