Ahmedabad: The health department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has issued a ‘Yellow Alert' for the city from April 19 to 25. Residents are advised to take precautions against heat during this period.
"According to the forecast by the India Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature in the city is expected to hover around 42°C, while the minimum temperature may range between 25°C and 28°C from April 19 to the morning of April 25. There is a possibility of intensified heat during this duration. In view of the rising temperatures in Ahmedabad, the municipal corporation urges citizens to remain cautious to avoid severe heat," an AMC release stated.
The department has advised residents to carry a water bottle while stepping out. "Citizens are encouraged to drink sufficient fluids such as water, lemon juice, buttermilk, coconut water or other liquids. Consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables is recommended. Spicy food should be avoided, along with excess protein and stale food. Avoid intake of tea, coffee, and sodas. Use an umbrella, hat, or scarf while going outdoors.
If possible, avoid stepping out between noon and 4pm. Do not remain under the sun for extended periods and wear light-coloured and loose cotton clothes. Take regular breaks while working and rest in cool places at intervals. Extra care should be taken for young children, senior citizens and pregnant women," officials said.
The department added that symptoms of heat stroke caused by extreme heat include heat rashes, excessive sweating, and general weakness. Headache, dizziness, red, dry and hot skin, muscle pain and weakness, nausea and vomiting may also occur. If any of these symptoms are noticed, medical advice should be sought immediately.
