AHMEDABAD: Congress MLA and

OBC

leader Alpesh Thakor was on Wednesday summoned by

Sola

police in connection with a year-old case relating to a demonstration he had held near the

Gujarat

high court in Sola.

Sources in the Sola police station said that Thakor was earlier issued a notice to record his statement but he did not turn up. On Wednesday, he gave a statement about the incident in which nine persons were booked for breaching the police commissioner’s notification by holding a demonstration without police permission.

Thakor confirmed that he had held a demonstration in July last year without taking police permission. “There was no question of my arrest — I have immunity as an MLA,” he said. “Cops have to take permission before arresting me.”

Thakor and his supporters had on July 6 last year poured hundreds of litres of milk on roads in different parts of the state while demanding complete

loan waiver

for small and marginalised farmers of Gujarat. Thakor was then briefly detained by Sola police for taking part in one such protest on the SG Road.
