Ahmedabad nurse harassed with fake social media accounts
Ahmedabad: A 21-year-old nurse from Navrangpura has alleged that unknown person created multiple fake social media accounts using her photographs and posted misleading content in an apparent attempt to defame her.
According to the complaint filed with Navrangpura police on Monday, the complainant said she works at a hospital in Navrangpura and takes up freelance anchoring jobs. She stated that she uses a social media account.
The complaint says the harassment began on Feb 21, when a comment was repeatedly posted on one of her motivational reels from an account named “king1041700.” She stated in the complaint that after deleting the comment several times, she eventually turned off the comment section on the post.
The complainant stated that a derogatory message was allegedly sent from the same account. When she asked the sender who he or she was, the person began using abusive language. She further stated that after she threatened legal action, the abuser deactivated the account.
The complaint stated that between Feb 22 and 24, several Instagram accounts were created using her name and photographs. The FIR states that these fake profiles carried her pictures and, in some cases, displayed a young man’s photograph in the stories with the caption “My Love.” One particular profile even carried her picture and posted derogatory comments.
The complainant also alleged that one of the fake accounts is still active. She stated in the complaint that the repeated creation and deactivation of fake accounts suggests an ongoing effort to malign her on social media. The FIR notes that she had already submitted a complaint on the cybercrime portal. Police have registered a complaint and initiated legal action.
