Ahmedabad: Missing man found dead in river, father alleges murder

Ahmedabad: Months after a 30-year-old man from Gandhinagar district went missing, DNA testing has confirmed that a decomposed body recovered from the Sabarmati was his. Police have now registered a murder complaint against an unknown person.The complaint was filed with the Sabarmati Riverfront East police station by the victim's father, a 66-year-old autorickshaw driver from Radheja village, Gandhinagar. He told the cops that his younger son, Dhaval, left home on the evening of Sept 22 last year, saying he was going out, and never returned. After failing to trace him despite inquiries with relatives, the family lodged a missing person complaint at Pethapur police station on Oct 2 last year.Meanwhile, on Sept 25, an unidentified male body, aged around 35-40 years, was found in the river, near a walkway behind Step Number 11 of the riverfront.According to police, the body was badly decomposed and carried multiple identifying features, such as tattoos reading "D," "Dg," three stars, a name similar to "Bhavesh," and "Dhaval" in capital letters, with a red thread tied around the wrist.The body was sent to Civil Hospital in Asarwa for autopsy. DNA samples of the father were collected and sent for forensic analysis, which confirmed the victim's identity. According to the postmortem report, the victim suffered injuries to the head and face, caused by both blunt and sharp objects, indicating homicidal violence. The complainant has alleged that an unidentified person killed his son and disposed of the body in the river to destroy evidence. Police have registered an offence under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for murder and destruction of evidence. Further investigation is underway.
