Ahmedabad: Cabbie robbed of ₹5L by 4 men posing as passengers
Ahmedabad: Four unidentified men allegedly abducted, assaulted and robbed a 37-year-old cab driver of cash, valuables and a car, with the total value of the stolen items amounting to Rs 5.23 lakh. They posed as passengers and booked the cab through a ride-sharing app in the early hours of Monday.
According to the complaint filed by Rajnikant Raval, a Ramol resident, he accepted a booking in the Prahladnagar area around 1.58am on Monday. The pick-up location shown on the app was near Krishnadham Auda flats.
Raval told police that four men, aged between 25 and 40 years, boarded his white sedan from a spot near Makarba crossroads. One sat in the front seat while the remaining three occupied the rear seat. The destination on the app was shown as Ambapur near Adalaj.
When the vehicle reached a dark lane ahead of Zundal Circle, one of the passengers asked the driver to stop, saying he needed to use the toilet. Moments later, another accused allegedly pulled out a knife and held it to Raval’s throat while the others assaulted him and showered abuses. Police said the accused then took control of the vehicle.
The gang allegedly snatched his mobile phone, Rs 1,500 cash, a silver chain, a wallet containing bank cards and identity documents, and transferred Rs 2,000 from his UPI account into theirs. The complainant further alleged that the accused threatened to kill him and his family if he informed police. Around 3.30am, the accused forced him out of the car near a canal road ahead of Sanathal toll plaza, and drove away with the car worth around Rs 5 lakh.
Anandnagar police registered an FIR for robbery, criminal conspiracy, causing hurt, criminal intimidation and abetment under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against the unidentified accused. None of the accused have been arrested.
